Explore the principles of permaculture and learn how to design resilient, sustainable growing systems in this engaging one-day course at Hampshire Market Garden in Hambledon, Hampshire. Led by Chris Huskins, Head Grower and Farm Manager, this course is ideal for anyone looking to create thriving gardens, farms, or landscapes that work in harmony with nature.

On The Day

The day begins with a welcome drink and a chance to meet your fellow growers before Chris and the Hampshire Market Garden team take you into the world of permaculture.

From there the day unfolds through a series of hands-on sessions, a tour, and open discussions, working practically together on the farm and drawing directly from the methods we use every day at Hampshire Market Garden.

Lunch is included midway through, giving everyone a chance to sit together, share ideas and ask questions in a relaxed setting. By the time 4pm comes around you'll leave with a genuinely different understanding of what healthy soil looks like, and exactly what to do when you get home.

What You'll Learn

Through a mix of theory, discussion, and hands-on activities, you’ll discover:

- The ethics and principles of permaculture.

- How to observe and work with natural systems.

- Practical techniques for designing sustainable growing spaces.

- Real-world examples of permaculture in action.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Is this suitable for complete beginners?

Absolutely. You don't need any experience to get the most out of the day. The sessions are designed to be genuinely useful at every level, and the small group size means Chris and the team can tailor conversations to where you actually are.

What will we actually be doing?

This is a workshop and hands-on day, not an all day lecture. You'll be outside on the farm practically with the team, getting into conversations, handling materials, and learning by doing as well as the theory. There will also be time for open discussion and questions throughout.

What's included in the ticket price

A full day of hands-on sessions with the Hampshire Market Garden team, a guided tour of the market garden, farm lunch, and refreshments throughout the day. No hidden extras.

I have a dietary requirement. Can you accommodate me?

Yes, just drop us an email at [email protected] when you book and we'll make sure you're well looked after.

What Should I Wear?

Dress for being outdoors and expect to get your hands dirty. Layers are a good idea in July and closed toe shoes or boots are sensible. We'll provide all the tools and materials you need on the day. Bring a notebook if you want one, and plenty of questions.

Where exactly is it and is there parking?

The workshop takes place at Manor Farm, East Tytherley, SP5 1LE. There is free parking on site. Follow signs for The Veg Shed. https://share.google/tNkeKKkmWBhWPisig

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, we recommend booking online in advance. Numbers are limited and we want to make sure you don't miss out.

Is it suitable for children?

We want persons of all ages to learn about composting and soil health, however just to let you know this is a full day course with theory and practical covered. Any under 18's are welcome with an accompanying adult, however you will be responsible for those who are not adults that come along with you.

What if the weather is bad?

This is a farm in Hampshire in July, so we plan for all weathers. The day is designed to be outdoors and we'll be out in it, so come prepared. We have covered and indoor spaces available if we need them.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel more than 14 days before the event we'll offer a full refund. Inside 14 days we're unable to offer a refund, but you're welcome to transfer your place to someone else. Just let us know at [email protected]. We may also be able to transfer the cost of your ticket as credit to another event.

I have more questions. How do I get in touch?

[email protected] or WhatsApp us at https://wa.me/447591378149 and we'll get back to you.
