Composting 101 Workshop at East Tytherley.

The Secret Is In The Soil... Join us to learn all you need to know to start making your own compost.

Saturday 27th June | 10am to 4pm | 15 Spaces Only

Hampshire Market Garden, Manor Farm,

East Tytherley, SP5 1LE.

Learn to make the best compost of your life.

Good growing starts long before a seed goes in the ground. It starts with what's beneath your feet. On Saturday 4th July we're opening up the farm for a full day dedicated to compost, soil health, and the living systems that make everything we grow possible.

This is the day for anyone who wants to understand what's really going on in their soil, and how to work with it rather than against it.

Whether you're growing on an allotment, in a back garden, or on a larger plot, the principles are the same and the results are transformative.

On The Day

The day begins with a welcome drink and a chance to meet your fellow growers before Chris and the Hampshire Market Garden team take you into the world of compost and soil health.

From there the day unfolds through a series of hands-on sessions and open discussions, working practically together on the farm and drawing directly from the methods we use every day at Hampshire Market Garden.

Lunch is included midway through, giving everyone a chance to sit together, share ideas and ask questions in a relaxed setting. By the time 4pm comes around you'll leave with a genuinely different understanding of what healthy soil looks like, and exactly what to do when you get home.

What You'll Learn

Throughout the day we will cover:

General soil health & the soil food web:

Understanding what lives in your soil, why it matters, and how every decision you make above ground affects what happens below it..

Hot composting and how to get it right:

Understanding the process, the ratios, and how to build a heap that actually works.

Worm farming and vermicomposting:

How to set up and manage a worm system and what it produces that your plants will love.

Composting for growing:

How to use finished compost effectively on your beds, when to apply it, and how much.

Compost teas and liquid feeds:

How to brew and apply compost teas to supercharge your growing without reaching for a bottle.

Who Is It For?

Anyone who grows food or wants to. You don't need any composting experience to get the most out of the day. The small group size means Chris and the team can tailor conversations to where you actually are, so whether you've never made a heap or you've been composting for years and want to go deeper, this day will move you forward.

Frequently Asked Questions.

What will we actually be doing?

his is a workshop and hands-on day, not a lecture. You'll be outside on the farm working practically with the team, getting into heaps, handling materials, and learning by doing as well as the theory. There will also be time for open discussion and questions throughout.

What's included in the ticket price

A full day of hands-on sessions with the Hampshire Market Garden team, a guided tour of the market garden, farm lunch, and refreshments throughout the day. No hidden extras.

I have a dietary requirement. Can you accommodate me?

Yes, just drop us an email at [email protected] when you book and we'll make sure you're well looked after.

What Should I Wear?

Dress for being outdoors and expect to get your hands dirty. Layers are a good idea in July and closed toe shoes or boots are sensible. We'll provide all the tools and materials you need on the day. Bring a notebook if you want one, and plenty of questions.

Where exactly is it and is there parking?

The workshop takes place at Manor Farm, East Tytherley, SP5 1LE. There is free parking on site. Follow signs for The Veg Shed. https://share.google/tNkeKKkmWBhWPisig

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, we recommend booking online in advance. Numbers are limited and we want to make sure you don't miss out.

Is it suitable for children?

We want persons of all ages to learn about composting and soil health, however just to let you know this is a full day course with theory and practical covered. What if the weather is bad?

This is a farm in Hampshire in July, so we plan for all weathers. The day is designed to be outdoors and we'll be out in it, so come prepared. We have covered and indoor spaces available if we need them.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel more than 14 days before the event we'll offer a full refund. Inside 14 days we're unable to offer a refund, but you're welcome to transfer your place to someone else. Just let us know at [email protected]. We may also be able to transfer the cost of your ticket as credit to another event.
